Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on recently—a **WLED Mapping Application**. It’s a tool designed to map LED positions using computer vision and a camera feed. The idea is to make it easier to track and manage LED setups, especially for complex configurations like LED strips or matrices.

I actually found a similar program on GitHub, but it was written in a language I wasn’t familiar with, and the dependencies were outdated, so I couldn’t get it to run properly. Instead of trying to fix it, I decided to take inspiration from it and build a completely new version from scratch.

The app is still a work in progress, but it’s coming along nicely! It supports both automatic and manual LED mapping, and I’m working on adding features like configuration exporting/importing and better integration with WLED devices.

Once it’s ready, I’ll share the code and a detailed guide on how to use it. If anyone has suggestions, feel free to reach out!

Cheers!

I don’t know if you are familiar or not but xLights has that feature. Not sure if having a look at their coding would help you or not 🙂

Hey there. Have you made any progress on this? I have a project with ~2000 LEDs that I need to map on a sphere. This would be perfect.

Did you check this application?

I think it can load background images, and then you click and it places leds onto a grid. You can export json files with WLED formatting option.

Another free and super handy tool for most of your 1D 2D (some 3D) mapping needs
