I’m new to pixel lights. I have framed my house with Permatrax frames and using Dig- Quad (2 of them)
My issue is on the last hookup. I thought I could just “T” off the output from CH-4 to split to the input of my window frames so they could just do the same thing. But when I used a power T the lights went crazy. I tried making all kids of connections (that’s why the wire has so many solder points) but for some reason it won’t work.
I have narrowed my issue to the data wire and when I split it then it goes crazy.
Any input would be appreciated.
Dont mind my attempt of showing you the direction of the wiring…
I’ve done this plenty of times. Are the grounds of both led setups grounded with the ESP. if not you get ground looping with can cause havoc on the data line.
A power T is made to inject power, not to split data (Some 3-3-3 Power Injection T’s will link all 3 directions data. Maybe yours doesn’t?). If you want to split the data just run 2 data wires from either the dig or from where you connect to the beg of the first string. That *should work.
If you make too many splits you will reduce the data signal too much and you will run into flickering/random pixel lighting issues. This can also happen if you are running a too long of a distance from your split.
Not sure if your plan is just to run these windows only with WLED Fx or if at some point you want to explore xlights, but if you plan to use xlights I 100% would string these one after the other and not paralleling them.
I don’t know where your ‘start’ is but if it’s at that bottom left I would wire like my attached pic running around 1 then back tracking in the channel with wire to the other window. Pic shows power injection wires as well if needed
Thanks for all that info. The Power “T” I got were from wired watts and they didn’t work. Even though they said the can do power and data they didn’t for me. The other issue with the power “T” is that they are either M or F input to M & F output.
What I need is M input to 2 F output or vice versa. (Can’t remember what is what)
I have new Power T coming and I’m going to cut the ends off and see if I can’t modify them. The last thing I will do is add a data booster from DrZzzs and see if that helps.
I do plan on getting into X lights into the future (it was overwhelming just watching all the videos)
So I will connect them like that in the future.
The only reason I didn’t connect them now was I didn’t want them to chase each other. I was just trying to have them mirror each other to match all the other windows and garage.
Again thanks for your input
If you want to wire them like my pic. In WLED you could make 2 segments. One for each window. Then in one of the segments settings you could reverse it. Then they would flow the way you want. Note: You will have to save a preset else the segments will be lost @ reboot.
I didn’t even think about that…
Now just to master sequences… good thing there’s lots of great YT videos…
Thanks for that advice
So the issue was just the length of the run from my controller. The data booster fixed my issues.
