Esp board and leds

Cheers guys for the information. I realised I’ve not got enough 18gauge wire to inject power at the top so I’ve ordered some and hopefully I’ll wire everything up onto wall then have a go at the level shifter as this is going to be behind tv close to the esp board.

Just to clarify guys. The data cable gauge doesn’t matter does it? As I’m using a data cable that is pretty thin separated from the cable as mentioned in previous post. It has 7-8 tinned strands. Just wanted to know before I wire it through then get to the next stage. Cheers

Correct, doesn’t carry current

Cheers Kilrah. Divsys and jinx told me before but I just wanted to confirm because they going behind a trunking which is plastered into a wall and a mission to get through so I didn’t want any issues afterwards. :+1:t4:

Hi guys. Quick question the capacitor for the level shifter is the 100nf right. Here the in the U.K. they come as 100nf but convert them to PF and come in 25v, 50v. Which one would I need with a 4 led light strips with 160 LEDs on each. Cheers

That’s 0.1uF=100nf=100,000pF. Voltage is largely irrelevant as they go across a 5V supply.
25V or 50V whichever is smaller and easier to mount.

That cap. deals with switching currents into the levelshifter IC and is independent of the number of strips/LEDs. Just make sure it’s very close to the VCC pin on the IC, one leg to Vcc and the other to ground.

Cheers for that. Got them just about having time to get them all connected and running. Something different and quite challenging.

Hi guys can’t seem to figure out what’s going wrong. I’ve added a level shifter and an 100nf ceramic resistor and connected all wires according to the diagram above. The lights still flicker. I put a power injection on the first light strip on the left and and changed the fuse to a 10amp. The first 3 light strips when on solid colour still flicker and the 4th light just has random colours and doesn’t even switch off when using the wled app, whereas the first three do. So I disconnected the level shifter and put them back to just the esp board to the light strip. As I left one pin on the gpio the light didn’t flicker then done the same with each of the other data lines as I add one at a time the light flickers but then I take out the data line and the light stays on solid. So as you can see all the lights are on full brightness with no data line connected. Yes the grounds are fully connected. So one gpio in on its own light stays solid no flicker but when I add another gpio it flickers. But then I took the gpio off and it stays solid and same with rest of the lights what could be the problem. Sorry for the long text. It’s 5:00am here in uk and I’m half asleep. Lol. Cheers
