20w Flood Issue

Hey,

Any chance any of you have an idea how/where I should start trying to find what’s wrong with this flood? (it’s not from Blinky)

I ordered this 20w flood from a seller (that I won’t name…) on amazon that was liquidating their pixel inventory in Jan’ (yes that person…) and when I tested the light with a dumb controller it seemed to work. Fast Fwd to this past week when I wanted to use it… Red and Green worked. Blue worked but would not dim. After being on for maybe 8hrs I lost the blue channel. The next night the light was dead.

Today I took the light apart to see if I could maybe see some poor solder or something burned out. There is nothing visible that I can see. So I plugged it back into my controller and noticed that the green LED on the 12v PSU was blinking. Wth? Thinking the PSU may be bad I removed it and wired it direct to 120v and it worked fine. Wired it back into the control box and any time I connect the flood the PSU LED starts blinking? So something with the flood light is shorting something out.

Anyways I am attaching a few pix and link to a video of the blinking PSU LED. If anyone has any ideas on where/what I should look at in this flood light to maybe fix the issue it would be great. Thanks.

I’d guess that’s a WS2811 chip driving 3 transistors. My guess would be there’s a Constant Current supply inside the flood that’s now FUBAR.
If you can get any specs on the actual RGB LED element, it might be possible to replace the drive elements with something more suitable.
Probably going to be some work…

Thanks for the reply. I’ll have a look at the LEDs tomorrow but I am doubting that there is anything on them. I know there is nothing top side. At least it was only like $18. Maybe I’ll cut a bunch of strips of LEDs and utilize the whole visible glass window and see how bright that is.
