3 x LEDS Strip to manage

hi,

i ve bought 3 leds strip : SK6812 5meters RGBWW 60 LEDS/M 5050 SMD DC 12 V

5meters x 60 x 3 Strips = 900 LEDS in total

i plan to use a power 12V 300W

now, what about power and data setup?

My question : Do i have to power the 3 strips in parallel or serie ?

1/ 12V and ground on each starting part of each strips (parallel wiring)

or

2/ 12V and ground on the first strip and connect the 3 strips together in series

Now about the data signal

Same question

1/ Parallel mode (one GPIO connected to the 3 Data start strips)

or

2/ Serie mode (one GPIO connected to the first data , and connect all data pin in serie)

or

3/ Three GPIO pins (ESP8266) to manage each 3 strip (3 segments)

Best Regards

I would switch to Esp32. With 900 LEDs if you want faster frame rate I would use 2 or 3 gpio’s

You can try powering the strips from only 1 end, but you will likely have a voltage drop issue. I would either power each strip from the middle or from both ends.

You can run all the strips in series, but you will need to power them from several locations (beg and end of each one). 1 data line for 900 LEDs will give you a slower frame rate vs using more than 1 gpio. If that is not a concern and depending on what you are planning to do with these strips it may be the easiest solution.

*It would also be a really good idea to add a proper levelshifter.

I missed the ESP8266, definitely go ESP32. On 0.16 it looks like >700 LEDs can no longer be supported.

That is kinda sad. It would be nice if there were a more bare bones precompiled build option on the web installers that still offered that. Not everyone needs all the added features of 2d, music, etc etc.. It doesn’t really affect me, but I could see it effecting other users or ones that go and update and then their whole setup gets nuked. Like some users may just be running outlines and don’t need high fps for anything. Like WLED Basic and WLED Advanced or something

there is, its called 0.15
