Do I need multistrip? Did I do the right thing?

I have a project to create cove lighting in my bedroom. This is a super-overkill project, but I have fun with it. Here are some details:

  • ESP32 controller (wESP32 with PoE, using ethernet)
  • WS2815 12v
  • 14.4m ring of LEDs, controller is ~6ft from start of ring
  • 96 leds/m = 1383 pixels
  • 350W power supply
  • SP901E amplifier - bought on amazon
  • SN74AHCT125N level shifter
  • Currently injecting power every 4m, but seems like I should do ~1m
  • Using some cat6a 22AWG cable, with each power line using 2 twisted strands for more gauge
  • Planning on using aluminum channels to act as a heat sink, want this install to last 10+ years!

Now, things seem to be working fine on my workbench, but I am trying to make this thing bulletproof as it will be a pain to service after install (10ft. ceilings, need to move large furniture, blah blah). I know that there is a recommended maximum of 1000 pixels.

  • Will switching to the multistrip usermod with 2 segments help me?
  • I think I solved the data line voltage drop problem with the amplifier, did I do the right thing?
  • Is there anything else I should worry about?

A small thank you to everyone working on this. My first time playing with LEDs and distance voltage, but not my first time with electronics. Having way too much fun with this!
