ESp32 reebooting ~60 seconds

Hy @ all!

I installed WLed via the Webinstaller (and tried esptools later on as well, same result). Unfortunately it keeps rebooting approximately every 60 seconds.

I displayed the Log via the Webinstaller and this was the output:
Guru Meditation Error: Core 0 panic’ed (LoadProhibited). Exception was unhandled.

This is the device which I am using (I tried 3 of them, everytime the same result)

LEDs are connected on PIN 2 and 16

It happens regardeless if LEDs are connected to the Pins. Also no matter if on external Power /5v) or powerded via USB port.

Has anyone any idea, what causes this and how to resolve?

Thank you

disconnect from GPIO2 and try it again.

Thank you for your answer.

I tried 2, 4, and 16. everytime the same

Disconnect all LEDs and try to run WLED, if it still rebooting without LED connected then your board is faulty.

Hy

All my 3 Boards had the same issue, so I bought another esp32 board from a different vendor:

No LEDs are connected, but this Board has the same issue as the previous ones:

Definitely sounds like a Version/flash issue. I would suggest you try the Webinstaller with a different version of WLED. What version have you been using so far?

I used the WLED - Webinstaller version 0.13.1 so far.

Now I’m trying to install it via esptools. Should the error continue, i will try the webinstaller on another PC… Its really strange. If i install it on a wemos D1 mini, there is no problem at all…

I’ve had the best success with the webinstaller my self and I have a number of those WROOM-32 DEVKIT style boards. My guess would be a boot-loader/old memory crud issue. Might be worth forcing a full erase of board before loading.

Definitely try a different PC, I see someone has recently had success with a Linux box as well.

I suggest a different version (older/newer/beta) as you’re just trying to get something to load.
Once up, you can probably move to the version you want via OTA updates.

Normally this is a dirt simple process.

Thanks for your help. I did “esptool.py erase_flash” and tried to install via install.wled.me on another PC. Same result

Now I’ll try an old version

I think, I’m giving up… I tried WLED_0.10.2_ESP32_ledpin16.bin

Same issue…

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

We’re missing a variable somewhere…

You are right…

I think, i got the solution…

I digged into the settings, because the reboot happens exactly every 60 seconds…

So i did the following: Under Settings => Time & Macros => Time-controlled presets

there was by default every checkbox checked (Row En.)
I deseleced everything including sunrise and sunset, did a save and a reboot.

Now its up and running since 15 Minutes and 12 seconds.

In parallel, i tried it on a second ESP32 as well…
Up and runnung since 8 min and 18 seconds.

So there could be a bug, if under Time-controlled presets the checkboxes are checked, but Hour, Minute and Preset is 0-

The funny thing… I am the only one who encountered this? :astonished:

That’s part of why I suggested a full erase and then load an older version.
Loads try and save all your configs/presets/etc, makes life easier when you upgrade.

Unless you’ve got mush in your configs that cause an issue…

I did a full erase (“esptool.py erase_flash”) but the problem was there from the beginning of the fresh installation.

I just got another banch of the esp32 from AZ-Delivery (Amazon driver was here 6 minutes ago) and tried to install WLED (via WebInstaller) on a completely new, untouched ESP32.

=> exactly the same issue. After turning off the Time Controlled presets, the rebooting stops

Exactly what version are you loading on an empty ESP32 from the Web installer?

The lastest version 0.13.1 (Browser google Chrome).

I did it on my PC (Windows 10) and on my Surface (Windows 11, there I had to install the Windows driver [CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers - Silicon Labs] before the Web installer worked)

BTW: Thank you very much for your help!! (still no reboot  )

Edit: On the AZ-Delivery ESP32, i had to press the Boot button to make the web-install work

As always, I’m willing to take the credit if your willing to do all the work :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But I’m still wondering, why I am the only person, where this behaviour appears, with different manufacturs and different PCs…

Thank you!
