I think sound on ESP8266 isn’t supported since 0.13.0 or so … use ESP32 to be future proof. Since current release you can use the WLED_0.14.0_ESP32_audioreactive.bin binary. And checkout Audio Reactive WLED - WLED Project to setup correctly. Follow instructions and your lights will react to sound.
