ESP8266 vs ESP32

Hi,
I’ve read a lot about WLED in the last days, but I haven’t found an answer to this question yet:
I want to use WLED together with Hyperion as Ambilight. Should I use the ESP8266 or the ESP32 for this? Of course the ESP32 is the better Microcontroller, but is this needed for WLED?

ESP32 is more feature proof. ESP8266 can’t perform as ESP32.

If you’ve got both on hand, the 8266 has plenty of power for the task at hand. If you’ve got to buy one, spend a little bit more and get the ESP32. Then in the future you could add sound reactive, capacitive buttons, etc.
