How can the concert lighting staff control lightsticks at Kpop concerts?

I have seen technologically advanced lightsticks like the BTS Bomb. The owners of these lightsticks can change the color of the cheering lightstick on their own, even without attending a concert. It doesn’t surprise me that they can control these advanced lightsticks. However, there are lightsticks from the SM Town company, such as the ones used by groups like SNSD, Shinee, and Red Velvet, which usually have just one color representing the signature color of the group. But when fans bring these lightsticks to a concert, the lightstick can change color under the staff’s control.

The interesting part is that during one concert, my friends’ lightsticks suddenly couldn’t turn on when the singers appeared. They were worried, but when the K-pop band appeared, their lightsticks turned on, changed color, and even had music reactive features. My friends were confused because they didn’t pair their lightsticks via Bluetooth or GPS or anything like that. It just suddenly turned on and was controlled. So, how do they control the lightsticks? How do they receive the data? Some concerts even create different letters in the audience, as shown in this example: SHINee - Birthday Letter on Vimeo.

If wireless control is being used, what is the range of control? Surprisingly, it doesn’t only work for those who have budgeted tickets or have the fancy technology seat synchronization like BTS. Recently, fans who couldn’t have the luck to buy SNSD Taeyeon tickets in Taipei, decided to enjoy the concert from outside, and their lightsticks synced with everyone inside the main venue! Here’s the video of the situation:

The lightsticks used in the video are from SNSD fandom, which usually lights up as pink. Now it has changed color and has music reactive features.

Does anyone know how to build one of these lightsticks? It’s definitely cool, and I’m planning to order one. If I disassemble it, how can I study its functions and learn how to control it myself?"
