I2S as Slave

I am using the Dayton Audio KABD-4100 amp in a project that happens to have an I2S output (master) and I am trying to connect an esp-32 for audio light effects. I understand that the I2S interface in WLED is running as a master, but is there any way to get it working as a slave. I feel like this should be achievable, but I have very little experience when it comes to programming.

Thanks.

Hi i just registered on the forum as i’m gonna do pretty much the same thing with a Wondom JAB3+ (basically the KABD with Bluetooth and ADAU1701), even tho the i2s runs as master i’m 99% sure that setting the ADAU1701 to slave mode via sigmastudio should still allow output etc., but it then should use the ESP32’s MCLK etc.

I havent tested it yet so i don’t know if it works well (or not)..

basically there needs to be One master for the i2s signals, i don’t think it’d matter if it is an ESP32 or an ADAU1701, but you defo have to choose one, and it will be the ESP32 as of now.

you’d have to do the same thing if you connected 2 KABD amps via i2s (set one to master)

master in i2s and i2c context means it’s the chip that generates the clock signal, no more no less

I have a background in general electronics but i decided to start messing with WLED cuz why not use a solution that exists rather than bake a custom one besides its nice that something like this exists

edit: well i’ve also messed around and it just keeps giving some digital noise no matter what i try

edit2 i have tried to just get the esp32 to be the slave by changing the master to slave in all files and setting the pins as inputs instead of outputs and while i have no noise, the esp32 also simply gets no signal at all.. (or doesn’t understand the output of the ADAU DSP)
