Hi there, first of all thanks for creating this software and this wonderful forum.
In my recent scouring of the aliexpress channels, i found this product Aliexpress.
I am wondering if this is some kind of legal infraction. Is just anyone allowed to distribute the software as a product like this for personal gain without giving any kind of kickback to the developer? (which i assume is what happened, forgive me if there is some kind of deal worked out with these people that i dont know about)
Perhaps i’m just being too suspicious. But it seems kind of seedy to be selling something like this.
Well, this ist the negative side from open source
See Arduino, USBasp, the Transistortester, these are all open source projects, with commercial copys from china.
From law site it’s legal, but the commercial players should benefit the projects
WLED uses MIT licence, which means: do whatever you like with it.
That being said, there are some nice HW developers that do contribute back. Not many, though, which is a shame.
@blazoncek is there a list of SUPPORTERS ((made Public)) Hardware Makers to WLED
we all shoudt order from to suport the Projekt this way ?!
this is in most cases the only way to get benefits both way
If you want to support WLED and its developers there are PayPal links on Github page.
There are no endorsed HW manufacturers though some reputable ones are clearly marked in hardware section of knowledge base.
