Michel here from the Netherlands. I’m setting up a WLED to go onto my “Carbagerun” car… Same as the race of lemons…but then a week long…
Anyway.
Browsing this discord page for a while now… but just signed up today because I’m getting annoyed with my test bench setup and I can’t figure it out anymore
What I wanted to do:
4x WS2815. Which work perfectly over 4 outputs.
1 Esp32 with 13.3 SR on it….
I wanted to use my car stereo output for the ADC input. I’ve soldered all the stuff together (680Ohm and 1mOhm resistors and 100 mU capacitors)
Put audio input on it… but could not get the signal clear enough. Tried again on the breadboard but signal sometimes works … and sometimes doesn’t.
Anyway. Then I tried a MAX9814 microphone. Works like a champ, but since my speakers on the car roof rack during the Carbagerun are 2x500 Watt PA speakers the microphone can’t handle the distortion.
Then I went for a imnp1442 i2s microphone… which I never got to work. Bought a second one to make sure that my soldering skills did not break the first one. Still no luck here 
Then I was fed-up with the microphones and decided to buy a line-in ADC I2S board. The PCM 1808
I wired it up… and after some fiddling with the GPio 0 output settings in WLED(GPiO 0 is by default used as a push button IO pin) I got some reaction from the PCM 1808.
But here is the kicker… it sees sound although nothing is connected. Is says “ I2S digital peak 99%” and it shows also in the “Peak” pane that something is not good.
If I put the car stereo output all the way to the max it sort of works … squelch at 255 and gain at 0.
But still not getting the “clean” sound reaction I was expecting.
I checked all grounding and wires a million times and banging my had agains the wall now because I’m lost. Searched for any problems with power supplies but even on a clean power input I got the same
I connected everything according to the WLED line input page … but I think I’m just missing something small here
What did I miss ? Can you point me in the right direction
