Randomise Segments?

Hi, can WLED randomise when an effect starts on each segment?

I was at a LED woodland walk last night. One of the displays was multiple segment rods hanging from different branched, with a falling icicle teardrop effect. I can get a similar effect in WLED but all the segments start and stop at the same time. Is there a way to randomise when a segment starts or at least put a set time delay/ offset to a segment?

Some want perfect synchonisation for segments and some want total randomization. Unfortunately none can be accommodated.

What you can do to have semi random look is to create several presets that will control individual segments each and then combine them in a playlist with different time and a single run. You will need to experiment a lot to get a desired effect.

Perfect, thanks for the response. How do you do a single run though? Whenever I make a playlist it just cycles through the preset effects.

can you give an example of the effect you are trying to achieve? this may be possible using particle FX which are highly adjustable and random by design.

The example is in the OP, would like to make random icicle drops, but thought it would be best using 1 segment for each icical.

that you can definitely do using one of the PS effects from nightly build. Try PS DripDrop

I can get the effect just fine, but can’t save the segments out of sync. I can apply the effect to each segment so they are out of sync, but can’t save it as a preset because as soon as you switch off they come back on in sync. I think blazoncek has the answer but don’t know how to get the playlist into a single run, rather than the playlist running through each effect one by one.

Found it! Offset segment
