Rotary encoder to control brightness?

I want to put a LED light strips behind my PC monitor. I want the ability to turn them on and off as well as control brightness via Home Assistant and a physical control of some sort that will sit on my desk below the monitor. I’ve found a usermod for use with a rotary encoder. But I’m unsure of what components I need and/or how they should be connected. The documentation shows how to install the usermod but I have been unable to find anything that shows the actual hardware involved.

I’ve been searching without any luck so if it’s available with a Google search, I just don’t know what search terms to use.

Can some point me to some sort of guide where I can learn this?

I used these rotary encoders successfully.

When the user mod is is installed, you can configure the pins.

That configuration is within WLED? Is there anything I need to add?

EDIT: NM, I just read your reply to my other message RE potentiometer and followed your link to your thread where this is discussed.

Do you know of a wiring diagram that I can look at? I’m trying to figure out what parts I need to buy and how they should be laid out.

It’s not exactly for WLED, but these links might be helpful:
