Starting Single Pixels of each channel illuminated after power outages

Hello. I’ve been using WLED to control my family home’s roof line lights. Our system is always off, except on holidays where we play the usual holiday themes…

I have the controller settings as follows:

Apply Preset 1 at boot. (My preset 1 is “lights off”).

However, occasionally our neighborhood has brief power outages.

When power is restored, the controller comes back on and there is usually 1-3 illuminated pixels on each output channel strand at the start of each strand.

This usually only happens when power is restored almost immediately… and not an outage longer than 1-2 minutes.

I have insured the controller is updated. I have also attached it to my computer and factory reset it.

My question is regarding this unusual behavior that I cannot figure out.

How can I ensure that when this thing boots up, it’s not showing anything at all (appears off).

I normally fix this by just turning the strip on and back off, however I may not notice this right away. Yah. I said “on then off” because when I open the WLED app, it’s state = off. Got to turn it on, then off to clear the single starting pixels that have mysterious power. Sometimes they are red. Some times white or blue. Sometimes the single light is running a theme. It appears to be running the last preset that had been playing.

There are 2 ways to fix that.

First and best way: Use a relay to cut the power to the LEDs leaving the controller on. Reason: Even though you have your LEDs set to ‘off’ (aka black) the strip is still sucking power and the components in the strip are still actively reducing the voltage for the LEDs. Over time this can/will reduce the life span of your lights. However with a relay the power going to the LEDs would be cut and not only helping save power but also saving your strings/strips.

Second simple fix is to check the lil box under in the LED Preferences page called ‘Off Refresh’. This will keep sending the Off command to the LEDs helping to keep them from being zombies from line noise.
