WLED and WS2811 CCT COB strip

Hey do you have a link to your ESP32 module?

For me WLED with a WS2811 24V strip works however i have to set up WS281x GRB and therefore i have the whole color palette and not just the color temperature.
I think this also results that in HomeAssistant i have to select an Color instead of being able to select a color temperature.

Hi Everyone

Totally new to this topic, please be gentle.

My ledstrip :https://www.amazon.nl/-/en/dp/B0BWTQWPV4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

My Esp32 controller : https://www.amazon.com/Teyleten-Robot-ESP-WROOM-32-Development-Microcontroller/dp/B08246MCL5?th=1

I plan to power the board from a 5V power supply and the strip from a 12V separate power supply (bearing in mind the ground needs to be shared between them to avoid flickering)

I would like to control the color temperature of the led strip (warm or cold) with WLED.
The led strip has 3 wires : one for V+, one for Warm white and one for Cold white.

I don’t know what pins to use on the board for the the 3 different wires so i can make it work in WLED.

Your advice is much appreciated.

Those are analog (dumb) LED strips and can not be directly controlled by WLED w/out other hardware: Compatible LED strips - WLED Project

Thank you Jinx.

The reason i posted here is that the OP mentioned using WLED with this product from BTF and mentioned he had success getting WLED to work. Maybe there were other circuitry involved like you suggested.

Since I wanted to use this for kitchen lighting only, is it safe to install it with a 12V 10A power supply for a 2m run and only connect either the CW (Cold White) or WW (Warm white) to the negative side power terminals (while obviously connecting power [red] to V+) ?
The article you referenced mentioned fire hazard which got me concerned.

Thank you

You should be ok. The specs listed for that 5m strip say 14watts so that’s like 1.2a @ 12v. They will just be full brightness without a dimming controller.

Hi Guys, can anyone share his config file to control BTF-LIGHTING FCOB COB Addressable CCT WS2811 with WLED (WS2811 white)?

I’m looking to get only the white temp slider in the UI.

Thanks!

I tested them today as well. But currently their is no support for that BTF in WLED directly. Just the RGB-workaround is working (Based on Setup, one channel is CW and one is WW, the last channel is irgnored).
If configured as WS2811 White in my Setup only the first two out of six segments are reacting with dimming but no change from CW to WW. As fare as i know their is a second variant of addressable CCT strips out there.

Same workaround on my side

Also experimenting with Wled (0.14 release) flashed ESP32 + BTF Lighting COB CCT IC led strip.

Unfortunately i couldn’t achieve same results, as my strip is still randomly flashing with different white temperature and brightness. I’ve tried disabling\chancing brightness limiter, changing R\G\B channels mapping. Generally i can control the brightness\white temperature with RGB hack, but random flashes make it unusable :frowning:

I have tried with 2 strips purchased at different time, so i tend to think its not a faulty strip, also RGB IC strip is controlled with no issues -_-

UPD: Borrowed Atom tech esp based controller - Strip now works with no probs, so it could be something with particular ESP hardware\software support.

Any news ? I have the same probelm. Some times the strip fliker and change temperature color

I am also having this issue with the LEDs randomly flickering/changing color temp. I’m using these BTF LEDs and this controller. I’ve swapped the controller for one that I know works to no avail (the swapped in one also flashes, and the swapped out one controls a different string of RGB FCOB LEDs fine).

When it isn’t flickering, the “workaround” above functions just fine, with the red and green channels corresponding to the cool and warm whites. I can control everything just fine via the app, and via Home Assistant (I also tried the controller without connecting it to HA, and it had the same issue).

Any help would be appreciated. I’m not all that familiar with the backend of WLED (which is why I went for a premade controller), but I’ll learn if it means I don’t have to buy more stuff.

Are you saying that there is an updated / second variant that would support color temperatures for whites rather than this rgb workaround on the LEDs the OP bought? I have these same lights and would love to have color temperature customization in WLED.

If you display the color temperature slider it actually works, just not over the full range.

What range of color temperature does it work with?

Anyone have any luck getting this to work in homeassistant with the built-in color temperature widget in the mean time?

I currently have two custom sliders under the on/off toggle mapped to the red and green channels. That works on my custom dashboards, but if you go into the “more_info” page of the light you still only have the color swatches and brightness instead of the color temperature slider that you’d expect

A year and a half later…

Yeah it’s this one. This is a german retailer, but it’s basically the standard node mcu variant.
