WS2812B 5m (300 LED Strip) not drawing expected current

So I have a new LED strip as in the title.
WLED estimated 17A current. I have a 30A bench PSU.

Readings taken on white maximum brightness:

Powering from just one end I see 3A and the LEDs at the far end are dim and off colour.
Power from both ends and I still only get 7A drawn from the supply.

Is this expected behaviour from this type of strip?

You should inject every 150 LEDs.
