A similar tree (If not actually the same but with slightly different remote) is available on that site named after a Brazilian river. I can get LEDs to light up (just testing with driving the treetop star at the moment), and boy do they flash, but no matter which LED chip/protocol I select, it doesn’t work properly. It’s possible I need a level convertor even with an 8” data line , but before I went to “extremes” I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has actually gotten one of these working and how they got it working.
It would help if you could post a pic of your wiring. The tree is most likely ws28xx. Did you have common ground between the LEDs, LEDs power supply and the controller? If not you need common ground.
Right now the wiring consists of +5VDC, Ground, and signal–no common ground between controller and LEDs. I will try that and reply. (I powered the controller via USB, duh!) My first thought was that the string was the RGBW variant of WS28xx as it clearly does have white LEDs.
You can power the controller from the usb port, but you need to connect a ground from the Esp to your LEDs ![]()

I don’t think it has a white channel. Description says RGB.
Ground was the issue; it’s working using WS2812. Thanks for reminding me! And I think you’re also right that it is plain RGB with the white looking very clean and not tinted as I am used to with my other addressable strings.
Thanks!
