Esp8266 & ws2815

I purchased a ESP8266 and flashed WLED 0.13.3 ,that is installed running correctly to my knowledge . I have a 12v 50A power supply to run the LED . I wired up the LEDs per the tutorials that I’ve seen online and haven’t had any good luck. I powered the ESP 8266 with the micro USB cable and connected the data (DI)wire from the LED strip to D4 on the ESP 8266 .The ground wire from power supply is connected to the data back up wire (BI) on the strip. I also tried another esp8266 , I purchased 3 . The lights are all multicolored and they are blinking. I also tried a different power supply(12V 1A) along with another LED strip, and still got the same results…

Your Esp, LEDs and LED power supply need to have common ground. Connect all of those together and see if that fixes it.

You also may want to install the latest version of WLED. 13.3 is quite old. https://wled-install.github.io/

Problem solved ! I had to connect the ground wire of the power supply to the esp8266 like you said. Even though it was being powered by the micro USB, the ground wire from the ESP board connecting to the power supply ground did the trick. I also updated the software, but it was extremely slow. I am going to try to downgrade to the beta version right under the one that you sent @Jinx . Many many thx !!! I’ll return with an update
