So, this may have recently crept in.
No matter what you set for the LEDs to do at boot, they start orange then transition to whatever is set. 
I tried changing the default color in wled.h to black, but that didn’t fix it.
I have the same issue!
I had a wled strip in the back of a mirror and when I power up the wled boots in orange the goes to the preset.
Fixed in latest master and the next release 
Sorry to open this thread again, but this does not seems to have been fixed. Tried 0.14.0-b1 and the current head of main. However 13.3 seems to not have this issue.
