Cob LED and ESP32 - 0.14.1

Hi all,

I also have a problem and I can’t solve it, I read everything on the website but something is not working and maybe you can help me.

I purchased the following products:

FCOB SPI RGB IC LED Light Strip WS2811 Addressable 720 LEDs Dream Color DC12V - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005046710332.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.30.16b51802J1oiKd

ESP32 Development Board TYPE-C USB CH340C WiFi+Bluetooth Ultra-Low Power Dual Core ESP32-DevKitC-32 ESP-WROOM-32 Expansion Board -

12v10A source

and a phone charger to power the board.

I made the connections as follows:

The 12v10A source – to which I connected a black wire (-) and a red one (+), I went with them to: - the red one to the led strip (12 v +), and from the black one it is divided into two parts, one goes to the led strip (GND) and one to the black wire from the phone charger. On the ESP board, only one Green wire is connected, which is on the PIN on the D2 board and goes to the LED strip DI (green cable)

In the Wled application, I made the following configurations:

  • uncheck the Enable automatic brightness limiter function
  • Led outputs: - WS281x
    RGB
    Length - 100
    GPIO 2

Please tell me where I am wrong.

Thank you very much and sorry for my English.

You don’t say what you get on the strip, any lights at all?

What version of WLED have you loaded?
Are you sure you’ve got WLED set to the correct GPIO pin?
Normally, it defaults to GPIO16, you might want to connect the data line to that pin and try updating WLED.

You may also need a levelshifter on the data line from the ESP32 to get the data signal up to the 5V the strip needs.

Checkout the KB: Levelshifters

The problem is that the intensity of the strip increases and decreases, the first group of LEDs (5 cm) are different colors compared to the rest of the strip and the colors keep changing randomly…
As I wrote in the title, the WLED version is - 0.14.1, and the GPIO is set to 2 in the application where it is also connected, from what I have read If you connect the strip to pin D2, select GPIO 2 in the application. I think that the problem comes from not understanding the led strip with ESP32.

Thanks for the reply.

Typically either common ground or a levelshifter problem, or both.

Sounds like you’ve got common ground, so likely a levelshifter issue.

Did u solve it? I have the Same Problem With a Stripe from btf 24v rgb cob spi ws2811 ic… gnd is wired to a d1 Mini esp8266 and the psu, +24v on the psu and the adress line to pin 4. using Wled 14.2… latest Release, my Problem ist the First and Last ledgroup i Define got a different Color, and the Control doesnt Work as expected… my brightnescontroll Switches Colors but not the brightness, colors Type and so on are all Right defined in the settings, i got no more idea what to do… its also flickering when is Switch colorsettings, i managded to reduce this by lowering the transition time… Here a link to the stripe i got https://www.amazon.de/BTF-LIGHTING-LED-Streifen-Wasserdicht-Dekoration-Controller/dp/B0BN7DG2Q8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=29V808FGAIXVR&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mPdLex1L0jCPtTVtf4SGBtj0OYZYYn8OVYNwrU2js2zlAMiuRn3alT84N5s85Gya0aoys3FqqKuU9hYeA8w7yqwVrqCDtRG7sQwcaXt1pGkmxmaDwS5H_8lV6-KCcNpUi5zNb_zgX2Vxf5Tg9pLq3hhaPvhWzOzplj6f7zu8MTi3MDN4Gc1zU1kMcY228wKOaQ9ErO7ypLE7pr1ssj6jwplVBbKLVRNHIYJ2aORAzuDh28Weea0xpZRBifEs1k81zSnIelvfIgy134z98uwNon3OunHQjMuiarBT-wcOi6s.5nfw79mO5aPLbl89K3cClr-K7dXEc7_3W0vBOZ_fepA&dib_tag=se&keywords=btf-lighting+fcob+ws2811+ic+rgb&qid=1707864722&sprefix=btf+ws2811+fcob+%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

As mentioned, a level shifter is required.
