ESP8266 vs. Domestic Automation LLC Wireless Smart LED Controller
After struggling with getting my ESP8266 to join my home network, I have finally connected it and can use WLED on my phone. It seemed like a lot of hassle and “iffy” at best.
I saw a video on cChris Maher’s youtube channel and thought this product might be an easier, if not much more expensive alternative. I have a string of 300 addressable LEDs on a 5v power supply. When I connect to the new wireless controller. I can get into WLED and set my configuration but I have very dim LEDS. The 17A 5v power supply should be sufficient to run that many LEDS.
Has anyone else tried this controller and had better results? There’s not a whole lot on the web except for Chris Maher’s youtube channel.
If it makes a difference, here are the LEDs that I am trying to use with WLED to eliminate the need for multiple apps.
The controller that they were previously connected to worked with the BanlanX app.
You said you had it working with the Domestic Automation LLC Wireless Smart LED Controller, but the lights were dim. The only way they are going to get brighter is if you add power injection. You can not send enough power through all the LEDs from just the beginning. You need to add more power injection points farther down the strips. Likely in the middle and at the far end, run back to your power supply.
Does that controller have an external antenna? If yes, maybe your issues with the esp8266 was because you were too far from your router? They do make esp8266 (and esp32) boards with external antenna’s as well.
