PlatformIO IDE 2.5.1 - breaks custom compile for esp8266

Hi All.

I’m not that programmer savvy, just can compile and tweak.

After my Platform IDE update to 2.5.1 yesterday I can not compile any esp8266 boards. ESP32 are fine.

Rolling back Platform IDE doesn’t help.

Anybody else have this problem?

PIO with its silent updates (yes they do happen) sucks BIG more often than not.

So rolled back to 2.4.3 and then deleted my ~/.platformio folder.

Forced re-install of various things and works again,
