WLED Equipped Address Numbers

Had an issue with stuff getting dropped off at the wrong D@#N house a while back. Decided to do a little upgrade and made a set of these with WLED. Here is a little video that I did when the project was complete while sitting on my work bench.

My place is a “work in progress” since it was basically a slumlord house, water heater was plumbed backwards, zero insulation, back porch is falling apart, knob and tube wiring still in use, etc. But the price was GOOD. Plus I can run wiring to do anything I want.

The address numbers were bought on Amazon filled with the LED strips, verified to be working and then filled with epoxy. Used a total of 83 WS2812B’s for the 3 address numbers. I will be honest and say that the original white only LED strips likely wouldn’t have lasted long due to some small holes in the edges where they were not sealed up but filling them with epoxy solved any water ingress issues that could happen. They are just mounted to a piece of OSB that has been painted white for now and then mounted above the door but will eventually be mounted directly to the house. I tapped power from psu that is there for an ~1500 led array on the front porch.

The address numbers and porch LED Strips are controlled by HomeAssistant/NodeRed and comes on at sunset in a randomly selected preset configuration. I try to “sync” a similar look to both strips but some effects on the porch don’t work well on the address numbers. At around 10:00 PM the Address Numbers change from their in motion to a solid dim white backlit scheme and stay on that way for another 8 hours. The larger strip turns off at about 11:00 PM but can be triggered to come on as a bright white configuration either through a motion sensor mounted above the entry way or a monitored phone entering the home zone.

Great idea! I might copy it

Thats cool. Probably need one round your letter box too lol
