I recently ordered a Wemos D2 Mini for a project involving LEDs, of course.
At first, I used a cable from a hard drive to make sure the computer could detect the ESP32, but that wasn’t enough. I then installed a driver (I don’t remember which one), and now the PC detects it correctly.
Next, when trying to install WLED on the ESP32-S2 using the website https://install.wled.me/, I get the following error message:
“Failed to initialize. Try resetting your device or holding the BOOT button while clicking INSTALL.”
However, when I do what it suggests, the same error keeps appearing in a loop.
So I tried using Tasmota-ESP-Flasher 3.2.0, and then this error appears:
“Using ‘COM6’ as serial port.
Connecting…
Detecting chip type… ESP32-S2
Connecting…
Unexpected error: unpack requires a buffer of 16 bytes”
I now don’t know what to do anymore to successfully install WLED.
I hope you will be able to help me solve this problem.
Thank you in advance.
Erase your Flash Memory first (https://esp.huhn.me/), then reinstall. Try holding the Boot button down before you hit Install and hold it down until you verify that it’s installing (it shows a % installation), then release Boot button.
Thank you very much, it seems that I managed to install WLED on my ESP32.
I’m attaching a screenshot; if you could now confirm that everything is working correctly, that would be great.
Once WLED is installed, do I need to wire everything to access the interface, or can I access it while the board is connected to the PC?
At the moment, I don’t see any WLED-AP Wi-Fi network.
It looks like you’re installing the WLED .bin file. I find it easier, once you’ve erased your flash drive, to use the ‘www.install.wled.me’ link. Just connect your S-2, when you go to install, click the ESP32 icon to the right on the blue bar center screen. You will be asked to identify the COM port. that your device is communicating on. If you’re not getting a %-downloaded reading it’s not downloading and you might have to try again… erase >reinstall. If you select the wrong COM port it will not download. Make sure the cable you’re using will transmit DATA not just power.
Once you get WLED installed you’re going to immediately go to CONFIG and WiFi Setup. Watch some tutorials on how to set this up.
