Mine are 1.4 and I’ve had the same problem. Solved by a 1uf ceramic cap between EN and GND for me.
Before trying WLED on them I’ve used some to run completely different firmware I’ve written and now I know that the couple times where I didn’t know why I had no response were probably the same issue, gonna have to mod them too.
Took some time to find out since the first one I used with WLED pretty much booted 100% as long as it was physically plugged into my desk’s ethernet cable, but spotty (mostly fail) if disconnected or plugged to the one at the workshop table…
The 2nd booted so rarely I had put a big X on it. I’ve now added the cap to it and it works just fine too.
They also tended to work fine as long as they were connected to the USB-serial adapter, which were the case on those I worked with for my other purpose since I was developing and reflashing often/getting serial out. Only started having problems once done.
