Esp32 wifi issues and WS2815 won't turn on

Im kinda new to the esp32 and wled…

i have a NodeMcu ESP32 Wroom and a 1m WS2815 led strip .

the first problem i have:
i can only connect to the esp32 by usb, when i pull out the usb and connect it to the powersupply i cant connect with wifi anymore. it turns on , but no wifi.

i have a 12v powersupply and a converter to 5v.

second problem:
My WS2815 led strip wont turn on… the first 4-6 leds are on (cant turn off) and are different colors (red,blue) but the rest nothing…

Its connected like this:

Esp. D2 to Data (green) on ledstrip
Esp. GND to 5v converter
Esp. VIN to 5v converter

Led. Data (green) to D2
Led. Red to 12v (+)
Led. Black to 12v (-)
Led Blue (backup data) to 12v (-)

If it dosent make any sense let me know :smiley:

WS2815 “BI” should be connected to GND. And all grounds (GND or -) must be connected together.

Did you set GPIO 2 in LED Preferences for your first output?
I would pick a different GPIO Pin than 2. 2 is tied to the onboard LED. A better choice would be to use GPIO 16
