Esp32

Does anyone know what size barrel connector I need for this esp32 controller?

I have 3 connected to a meanwel power supply for outdoor displays but I want to have one of them inside with a regular laptop power supply for kids safety.

Thank you

Better not to use barrel connector due to current limitations.

@srg74 I will be using only 105 5v bullet pixels. I don’t think a laptop charger would struggle to power them.

Laptop charger is different voltage than led strips.

GLEDOPTO is also a very poorly designed controller. The Athom is a better choice if set on that sort of form factor.

I got one for cheap and it seemed ok aside from weak output on the level shifter. What issues am I going to run into?

It has weak level output and is also underpowering the Esp itself. There is also no fuse (Athom has a fuse but is basically worthless) Quindor has a video comparing them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4psXhLCSxY

The one I got used a buck regulator to generate the ESP supply, so no concern there. If I get a chance I’ll improve the output stage and post it somewhere, although if you really want to drive cables, something this cost-optimized isn’t a good idea.

Yeah laptop power supply’s sometimes have weird voltages.

I have two of these, work fine - but I have soldered extra power wires on the LED-strips on two points. (352 LEDs on 5V = 8 Amps or so - spanning 6 meters, brightness is very nice. I would certainly nog have this current go through a barrel connector and over the PCB.

I’m not actually using led strips. I’m using 5v bullet pixels matched to a 5v laptop style power supply. They work fine. The original question was if anyone know what size barrel connector it needed but I got it figured out. Everything works fine. I just didn’t want to have to connect a meanwel power supply to it and have it in a box since it’s gonna be inside. I just wanted to have it with a barrel connector so it’s safe around kids as well. I understand everyone’s concern about but it is working the way I want it to and I haven’t seen any problems with it. Thank you
