You have it nicely labeled: IO0, RX, TX, GND (and Vcc missing labels). Connect those to the UART flashing stick.

Chris, I have the same remote and same issue. What program did you use and how to put it format mode for example. I would help if you have some more info so I can flash it also. thanks !!

IO0 needs to be pulled down, connect to GND to get it in format mode. I think I used ESPHome to flash. You do need UART flashing stick and a small breadboard helps to split the GND pin. Good luck!
