Next Aldi-Retrofit: Casalux LED column

Hi,

and another retrofit of a discounter-LED.

The LED column by Aldi costs 20 Euros. It is 1,5 meters high give or take and includes 25 rgbw LEDS. Power supply is 12 Volts and a quick peek into the column shows it is WS2814C based.

So I bought one and also ordered an ABC! ESP32 mini board, because it has everything onboard to cope with 12 Volts.

The column has a heavy socket, in which all the electronics is encapsuled. It opens with 4 screws on the bottom. Inside is (barely) enough room to keep the old logic board inside and add the esp32 board additionally. This allowed me to keep the power socket nicely in place and I just separated the joint to the LEDs and inserted the ESP32 there.

In WLED, LED configuration is set to WS2814, order is BRG, W&G are swapped and there are 25 LEDs in total. I also set the LED voltage to 12V(30mA) so that WLED can estimate power. That is all there is to it, works like a charm …
