Quick colour segments without segments!?

New to WLED and just getting started…

Is there a way to quick color segments of an LED strip in an app, similar to the way Smart Life / Tuya does it?

I understand about segments, but this Tuya method is super quick and easy without the need for defining segments.

Can this be done in WLED?

Thank you

yes you can do this
Q: Static for some seconds or moving
there are 3Color Blends within WLED
and segmentation is very easy forward so no problem on that

Sorry - my first message probably wasn’t clear.

I meant to ask - is there a 3rd party app, that allows finger painting of segments like this?
This is an extremely quick way to colour the strip in segments.

@djh25 if your APP connects via Wifi and uses DMX you can do this your way
but ists not consistence as the app you refering to and its own Controller

So then to your First Quetion no

WHAT speeks against using the WLED App and making it the Way it works
you know what you want its just numbers to segments
the segment system is auto numbering as of speeking if you configure a stripe 100Nodes
first segment is 0-100 if you correct the 100 to20
SECOND segment will start as of hidding the Plus sign at 21-100
and so on
there is a number on the bottom of the segment fram that tels you howmany LED you are referencing

and the Wled gives you realy good benefit of 100+ effects as of standard the app you arw refering is not

Segments can be chaind togeter with a same effect and set preset
presets go to playlists …

and

Hi.
Can I just say this…

I think this is a if your used to using a dumbbell spanner or carrying a tool box.
Most people into wled carry a tool box.

We get used to learning how to do many of the candy things other apps give for more… I’d say for commercial appeal. And “ease” of use.

But when you eventually know the nuts and bolts of a thing your creativity can be more precise.

Using segment IS relatively easy… Don’t forget about grouping and spacing mirroring reversing leds on the segment panel for more variations…
You’ll be pleasantly surprised once you start to feel it lol

Then saving that as a preset… You can use that as a template for changes or more variations etc…
After a little evolving of ideas you’ll have more impressive things than tuya can do by a long mile…

And as you go along that journey it will unlock in you more complex ideas that finger painting just wont do. You can’t mix fx on the same strip for example.

For instance… I set up at my daughters lounge strips around the whole ceiling. From each corner of the room. Left and right of the corner 30 leds are lit. “warm White” to behave as room lighting corner lamps. And trust me it lights the room. Then the segments between these on the 4 walls… Have a different sound creative preset on each on a low brightness…

She likes her chilled vibes while listening to her tunes.

Can’t do that in those apps.

Though I can see the convenience of this finger painting but in my opinion as humble as it is…

That way can be seen as limiting…

However it’s what you want from it that important…

You said you were new to wled…Padawan
Stay the course…
Use the Force…
You Jedi status awaits you…

Forgive me weighing in…

 I love the spanner / toolbox analogy.

Yes - I completely get it. I’m new to WLED and already a big big fan. It’s awesome.

And yes, segments is all quite straight forward and much much more powerful. TBH, the kids have got some of the Tuya strips, and now Daddy has got a few grown up RGBIC strips on WLED…

I was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak and I thought that there might be a way to recreate the Smart Life experience (when needed) with the additional power of WLED when needed in different circumstances.

@djh25 every system got its benefit on some Behavior
so glad to hear you got some benefit

there are 1m 30LED stripes for 1USD on ALI get you a 16-24 stripe MEGATREE
the kids will be impressed as the Streetwalker!

The Streetwalkers round here only like red lights… And I’m sure they wouldn’t like to light up like that lol

You must mean something I don’t know…

(Sorry for the amount of edits… Predictive text was predicting someone else’s conversation I’m sure lol…)

The spanner thing just came to me in the moment lol…

So here’s another one…lol

If your kids are creative in that way… Depending on age etc… Maybe develop them in a “technical
creative” way?

If you see that finger painting as Lego and then wled as Maccano you might fire up some spark ( no pun inferred) in them… Not always of course!

These things often are a random foundation for unlocking the “engineer” in a mind… however young. You know you kids so only you know if one or any show " that interest"

I missed that moment with one of mine. He was cool as was growing playing games understanding a little about modding… But now at 23 still can be found dribbling onto his xbox controller lol as he’s product of today’s world.

Though he at least knows what I talking about if I talk about things.

One of my daughters 26 Yr old… on the other hand has retained knowledge. She can now segent as good as a 5 star Michelin Cheif!!!

Now I feel like I’ve given her something she can permanently use to set the mood for her home.

I’m proud… It’s a warm fuzzy feeling lol

In perspective it’s a really little thing but can be a significant influence on the way we wish to relax and enjoy our spaces and alongside giving us the “man in the shed” experience. All skills transferable.

You never know you could be raising the next AI Tamer of the future (as that’s gonna be for there generations) or a professional lighting engineer.

Who knows… As the dice only stops for a Moment…

I more than believe that what you will do with wled today will pale with what you do tommorow… It works like that…

Now you can REALLY get into this wled thing… However you only need a light (no pun intended pt 2) to medium understanding to more than illuminate ( no pun… You know by now!) your ideas to enhance your home.

You’ll be fine. Lol
