Hello, I have been getting some random flickering that appeared several versions back. It appears random and all pixel flash white occasionally. I know it is within WLED as I can roll back several versions and it goes away. Is there anything I can check before just going back to an older version of WLED? Thank you!
I have noticed flickering between changing effects especially if done manually on later revisions. In other words when I change to the next pattern I get momentary flicker. It also only appears to happen on the ESP32 and not the ESP8266.
Thank you for your reply. I’m getting the flickering if I just let the same effect run constantly even. I’m using Quinleds ESP32 with Ethernet.
I went back to WLED 0.12.0 Hikari for now and that resolves my flickering issues. Something is wrong with the 0.13 versions.
Should be good with 0.13-b4.
Hello, today i made two more controllers for my lights and both of them flicker, but i made one a year ago and there are no problems. What should I do?
Hello!
Thank you for your reply. I was running 0.13.0-b4 “Toki” and still had the flickering issues. It was one quick flash of all white about every 30-60 seconds but was still there. It was even worse when running in e1.31 mode with xLights controlling it. I hope it is able to be worked out as I LOVE all the new features I had to give up going back to 0.12.
Hi, I was running 0.12.0 and it was doing it. Should i go back to 0.11.0?
Flickering could be caused by several different things like power and data as well. I just know I have a good working setup but when I upgrade to 0.13 that is when the flickering is introduced for me. Have you ever been able to run a version and not get flickering?
No, on the controller that i made a year ago version .12 works, but on the two new ones i went to version .11 and it flickered
In your case it sounds like you have an issue somewhere else and not with the WLED software.
Thats what I thought but, I checked the connections and they we all good. I have no idea. Could it be the data wire is to thin?
Do you have a level shifter?
If not add one.
Other than that I did notice that some cheap PSUs will increase the risk of flickering. Use quality PSU, add decoupling capacitors and condition the data line by adding appropriate resistor.
The flickering issue I originally opened this thread for is specifically with version 0.13 of WLED. Going back to version 0.12 the flickering goes away for me. I will stay on 12 for now but will keep an eye on the change log for 13 and try it again in the future.
It could, if your wires are lengthy and thin, try with thicker wires for GND and DATA, and make sure your controller, leds and psu have common gnd.
