TLDR; Add a sync option to enable/disable sync of power
I set up an automation in HA to turn my battery operated strip off that works, but when it gets a “sync” signal from the “Master” it turns it back on.
PS: It is slick to turn off the “master” and all the others go off 
That is the intended behaviour.
You can use sync groups to separate different masters & slaves. You can as well use different UDP ports.
I am not sure how to accomplish what I want with groups or UDP
I want all of my lights to sync to one strip but turn off the battery powered ones when I turn them off
You cannot seat in two aeroplanes at the same time.
