Yes max4466 is very bad so do not use that , max9814 is a bit better but still analog so might give you a bit of headache ,try to use gpio36 ( marked VP ) and test the same as below without any leds attached just using peek and usb power , if you want trouble free setup then use digital mics like INMP441
