WS2814 connect from the middle

Excuse me for a stupid question.

I am using WS2814 addressable RGBW strips which work wonderfully with WLED. Markings on the strips have “D IN” on one side and “D OUT” on the other side of the cut points. Does that mean the data line is “directional”? Can I solder data in from the middle of the strip?

Data only flows in 1 direction with addressable LEDs. If you add data in the middle, only LEDs after that point will work.
