Connecting more than 800 LED light units

Hey Everyone –

I’m a total noob here, trying to geek my way decorating through this Christmas season. I have an awesome 25 ft spruce tree that I had 950 C9 RGB lights installed (12V WS2811 IP68 Bullet Pixels 18 gauge). I have an Athom controller (model LS-4P) with WLED installed and a 12V 15A 180W Power Supply.

Here’s my problem…the first 800 lights work flawlessly. When I try to program 950 lights, I get this message in the WLED app:

It reads: You might run into stability or lag issues. Use less than 800 LEDs per output for the best experience!

How do I add another output so that the lights all work together?

Hi @COKid welcome simply hit the plus in the LED config and go on

OK, thanks. When I hit the plus button, I am prompted to fill in a GPIO field. What do I input? Do I put 150 in for length? I’m a total novice at doing this, so are there any other fields or boxes I need to check so that the 2 outputs will work together?

That controller only has 1 output, but you may be able to use the clk pin as a second it is gpio 3. I would not put more than 100 LEDs on gpio 3. I do not believe the clk pin would be level shifted though so if the wire is very long you will likely have flickering issues.

To be honest I would just leave them all on the default output and see how it works. I doubt you are going to be running any crazy fx that you would care if the refresh rate dipped below 20fps.

Another note: You will very likely need to add power injection. I can’t see you running 800 or 900 pixels and only powering them from the beginning. I would at the very least have power wires at the beg, mid and end of the full set of LEDs.
