Conversion of 2D Pebble Matrix from USB controller to WLED

Im hoping this actually is a simple question. I bought a set of led pebble curtain lights:(https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omedO9j) intending to cut off the USB controller and hook it up to my brand new digUno (YAY!!) 20 columns x 20 led per column. Connected at the top, not serpentine.

However, when i connected it up, only the first column lit up and would obey color change commands. I my troubleshooting i was only able to get certain random pixels in the other first few columns to light, but they were random and only when i was giving random commands to change color or effects in WLED. SO i think it is a data issue.

A few key points: The matrix is not connected serpentine. They’re connected as the top with the PCB “T” connector. Taking apart the last T connector in the line, I could see the wires are soldered to a PCB that says “data relay” ??? on the back. i have no idea what that is and every search comes back talking about power relays in relation to LED setups. Someone asked me previously what the behavior was in 1D mode. in both 2D and 1D mode, only the first row responds to my commands.

Any help would be appreciated. Here are some screenshots…

Please let me know what other information would be helpful.

My WLED version is: Installed version: WLED 0.14.4

Sounds to me like maybe you have a bad curtain. Does it work with the controller it came with?

Or maybe the ones with the chips don’t work, though I seem to recall people using them.

Yeah, it worked fine with the USB controller it came with. No issues, except that i want the functionality of WLED instead of their garbage app and IR controller.
